Curved & Rolled Balustrades, Glass & Handrails – Product Overview
Bright Balustrading offers an expert range of curved and rolled balustrade and handrail systems, combining precision fabrication with architectural form. These systems are custom-designed to suit spiral staircases, curved balconies, ramped walkways, and circular atriums, where linear elements won’t suffice. Whether made from glass, metal, or a combination of materials, our curved solutions are manufactured to exacting standards to deliver continuous, flowing lines that elevate any space.
From rolled stainless steel handrails to curved glass balustrades, we provide end-to-end services including 3D site scanning, fabrication, and installation — ensuring flawless integration with complex structures.
Curved System Types Offered
- Curved Glass Balustrades
Manufactured from laminated or monolithic toughened glass panels, designed to follow the radius of balconies, staircases, or ramps. These provide an uninterrupted, transparent barrier while meeting structural and safety standards. Glass can be offered in a range of options including with PVB or Strucutral SGP interlayers and with clear glass and/or with superclear/low iron glass. - Curved Handrails
Rolled or segmented handrails following concave or convex paths, suitable for spiral stairs, circular ramps, or perimeter handrails. Can be wall-mounted, post-mounted, or integrated with balustrades. - Curved Metal Balustrades
Custom rolled aluminium or stainless steel balustrade frames with vertical balusters, wire, or perforated panel infills. Suitable for matching architectural curves, particularly in premium developments, landscape edges, or public spaces.
Material Options
Our curved and rolled systems are available in a wide range of architectural metals and finishes:
- Stainless Steel – 316-grade, suitable for both interior and exterior use in a range of polished finish options including both satin brushed finish and mirror polished finishes
- Brass – Ideal for high-end interiors, with options for polished or patinated finishes
- Aluminium Tube – Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, ideal for powdercoating in custom colours
Profile Capabilities
We offer custom rolling and forming of various profiles, including:
- Round Tube – For classic continuous handrails and smooth transitions
- Square and Rectangular Tube – For modern, angular designs that follow curved paths
- Flat Bar – Popular in vertical balustrades or minimalist curved guards
- Spiral and Helical – Fabrication of spiralling handrails and balustrades for staircases and ramps
All profiles are carefully rolled or segmented to maintain shape accuracy, structural integrity, and architectural consistency across the curve.
3D Laser Measuring & Surveying
To ensure perfect curvature and alignment, Bright Balustrading offers advanced 3D laser scanning and digital site surveying, including:
- On-site laser measurements for accurate radius capture
- Digital modelling for approval before fabrication
- Integration with BIM/CAD systems for architectural coordination
- Reduces installation time and eliminates fitment errors
This service is particularly valuable for tight-radius stairs, multi-level spirals, and curved balconies where precision is critical.
Compliance & Standards
All curved balustrades and handrails are fabricated and installed in accordance with:
- NCC/BCA 2022 – Including Section D (barriers, stairs, ramps, and access paths)
- AS 1428.1:2021 – Design for Access and Mobility (for accessible ramps and curved paths)
- AS1288:2021 – Glass in Buildings (for curved glass balustrades)
- AS/NZS 1170.0, 1170.1, 1170.2 – Structural Design Actions
- AS1657 – Fixed Platforms, Walkways and Stairways
Performance
Our curved systems are engineered for both beauty and compliance:
- Load performance:
- 0.6kN/m for residential balustrades
- 1.5kN/m for public/commercial applications
- Glass thickness: Typically 12–17.5mm laminated toughened for safety and strength or even 21.52mm structural glass for the highest load bearing and crowd loading requirements
- Radius matching: Precision rolling ensures tight and smooth curve conformity
- Corrosion resistance: Material selection and finishes suited for marine, poolside, or high-exposure environments
- Seamless transitions: Joints and fittings designed for minimal visual interruption along curves
- Maintenance: Smooth, rolled surfaces reduce dirt traps and make cleaning easier
Bright Balustrading’s curved and rolled systems combine precision, performance, and architectural elegance. Whether it’s a spiralling brass handrail, a curved stainless steel balustrade, or a radius-matched glass edge, we provide the tools, expertise, and craftsmanship to make even the most complex geometry flow naturally and meet code — every time.
