Handrail Systems – Product Overview
At Bright Balustrading, our handrail range is designed to meet the diverse functional, aesthetic, and compliance needs of residential, commercial, public, and specialist environments. Whether integrated into staircases, ramps, corridors, or decks, our systems are fabricated using premium materials and engineered to comply with Australian Standards and NCC requirements.
We offer handrail solutions across a broad spectrum of architectural styles, material preferences, and site conditions — from classic to contemporary, curved to illuminated.
Handrail Categories Offered
- Wall-Mounted Handrails
Securely fixed to walls along stairs, corridors, or ramps, these are ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, providing continuous support and minimal visual impact. - Free-Standing Handrails
Standalone handrails supported by posts or stanchions, commonly used in open areas such as ramps, terraces, or open stairwells. - Single Unit Handrails – Ends Return to Floor
Designed as a continuous loop with terminal ends returned to the floor, these handrails comply with DDA requirements and eliminate snag hazards. - Curved Handrails – Rolled or Bent
Custom fabricated to suit curved staircases, ramps, or architectural features, these are precision-rolled or segmented to follow radius designs seamlessly. - LED-Illuminated Handrails
Handrails integrated with concealed LED lighting, offering both safety and ambience. Ideal for public spaces, aged care, and premium residential builds. - Brass Handrails
High-end architectural feature handrails with natural patina potential or polished finishes, often used in heritage restorations or statement interiors. - Timber Handrails
Timber Handrails in hardwood or stained finishes, suitable for residential interiors or where natural aesthetics are preferred. - Disability Ramp Handrails with Kerb/Kick Rail
Designed specifically to comply with accessibility requirements, these include a continuous lower rail or kick-plate to prevent wheelchair footrest overrun. - Fire Stair Handrails
Robust, code-compliant rails designed for use in fire-isolated exits. Typically wall-fixed or post-mounted and sized for safe, rapid evacuation. - Double Handrails – Primary Schools
Dual-height handrails to accommodate both adult and child use, commonly installed in educational settings and child-focused facilities. - Swimming Pool Handrails
Marine-grade stainless steel rails for pool access points, steps, and ramps. Designed for grip, corrosion resistance, and AS1926 pool barrier integration. - Vertical Extension Handrails
Handrails above existing barriers for added fall protection, used in retrofit applications or height upgrades. - Leather-Wrapped Handrails
Premium indoor handrails wrapped in stitched leather, providing warmth, grip, and a luxury finish for high-end interiors. - Acrylic Handrails
Transparent/clear handrails used in feature staircases or decorative fit-outs, combining safety with design flair. - Quartz Glass Handrails
Specialty handrails made from solid glass, often used in premium architectural spaces with a focus on minimalism and light transmission. - Boat and Marine Handrails
Handrails fabricated from marine-grade stainless steel or brass, custom-built for yachts, pontoons, and waterfront structures with high corrosion resistance.
Compliance & Standards
All handrail systems are designed and fabricated in compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC/BCA 2022), including:
- B1D4 – Structural provisions for barriers and handrails
- D3D17 to D3D22 – Provisions for handrails in accessible paths of travel, public buildings, and ramps
Systems are manufactured and installed to meet the performance criteria of applicable Australian Standards, including:
- AS1428.1 – Design for Access and Mobility
- AS/NZS 1170.0:2002 – Structural Design Actions (General Principles)
- AS/NZS 1170.1:2002 – Structural Design Actions (Permanent, Imposed and Other Actions)
- AS/NZS 1170.2:2021 – Structural Design Actions (Wind Actions, where applicable)
- AS1657 – Fixed Platforms, Walkways, Stairways and Ladders (for fire stairs, industrial settings)
- AS1735.12 – Lift and escalator handrails (where relevant)
- AS1926.1 – Swimming Pool Safety Barriers (for pool handrails)
Additional compliance with AS/NZS 4792 (coating performance) and AS/NZS 2312.2 (durability of finishes) applies to coated and stainless steel handrails.
Performance
Our handrail systems are engineered and tested to meet the following performance criteria:
- Structural line load capacity of 0.25–1.5kN/m, depending on use class and location
- Corrosion resistance rated to match environment category (urban, coastal, marine)
- Ergonomic grip profiles and non-slip finishes to support user safety and accessibility
- Custom radii and slope matching for ramps, curved staircases, and spirals
- Lighting integration (for LED systems) with low-voltage, waterproof, and replaceable components
Bright Balustrading’s handrail solutions combine functionality, aesthetics, and compliance — offering architects, builders, and developers a reliable, fully customisable range of products suited to any project type or standard.
